I gave a presentation at the Writer’s Place in Kansas City today. We had a great group in attendance.

The subject was disruption in publishing and the emergence of e-publishers.

Steve,

Your presentation at the Writers Place this morning was both informative and enjoyable. When we were departing, I told you I would become one of your readers. When I saw your cover this morning, I knew I had seen it before. When I tried to make a one-click purchase of Raw at Amazon moments ago, they reminded me that I had already bought the Kindle version on January 31. You are already in my virtual to-read stack.

Now that I have met you, I plan to put it on a faster track. When I’m done, I promise to go back to Amazon and leave a review.

I hope you won’t mind if I send an occasional question as I move toward wider distribution of my novel. I still need to get into ePub format for B&N and Apple and others, as well as moving down the road toward CreateSpace. Shooting at Kindle was pretty easy. If I remember correctly, I went from Word to a filtered HTML step to Mobi to Kindle. I was able to test with Movi Reader and Kindle previewer. My first question to you is how do you do that with CreateSpace. Do you get to see a test version via computer as to how your physical book and cover will look when it goes to print? Or did Inknbean stand between you and Amazon for this?

One other suggestion (or maybe request) regarding the session today is that it would be nice to know the e-mail addresses of the attendees. An exchange or duplication of a sign-up sheet would have been good. I did not finally get on the list for the worksheet until Friday, so I did not get the e-mail you mentioned and don’t know if their addresses were listed there. The are several of the participants with whom continuing dialog woud be interesting and beneficial. Please let me know if you or Writers Place could provide such information.

Thanks again for a great workshop. Good luck with your continuing publishing experience.

Regards,
Dick

Thanks for your comments, Dick. Glad you enjoyed the presentation, and I’m thrilled you already had my book in your stack!!

Regarding Createspace, Inknbeans did perform that service for me. It was a huge task, because I had been ‘tracking changes’ throughout the editing process in Ms Word. I think what ultimately worked the best was converting it to HTML and then you can send it through an automated process that Amazon has set up. They return to you a file that ou can transfer to your Kindle via USB. I wil try to get an email out to the group withe everyone’s email addresses. If you want to email me your address, I’ll put you on the list. steve@revare.com.

p.s. Sorry for the delayed response. My WordPress notification settings are a little messed up.
